Favourite thing to do in my job: Doing experiments to investigate material properties
About Me: I am a friendly and enthusiastic person. I try to do my best whatever I do. I like trekking, travelling and scuba diving! I also like embroidery. These activities make me relaxed.
I am from Turkey and I have been living in Dublin for 5 months. I am still trying to get used to Ireland weather 🙂
I like scuba-diving, trekking, travelling and some hand-made stuff. Since the restrictions, I go for jogging during the weekends.
Before coming to Dublin, I had been working in the defense industry of Turkey for 6 years. Then, I would like to improve my knowledge by doing PhD which was my dream.
Now, I am doing my PhD in University College Dublin. It is enjoyable to learn new things in a particular area.
My Work: I work on improving piezoelectric properties of a material. These materials are kind of smart materials. When you press on the material it gives you energy and reverse is also possible!
I am planning to produce one kind of commercial material which will be activated by a force. When you apply a force on the material you can generate an electrical voltage by using the material.
For example, think about you have this material on your shoe sole and when you walk or run, since you apply a force, you can generate electric and you can charge your phone!
There are lots of areas of this kind of smart materials, it can be used also in human body to monitor our health.
I guess, it will be enjoyable to work in that area. 🙂
My Typical Day: I go to the university between 8-8:30 am to do laboratory experiments, writing reports and research from the literature. I generally eat my food while watching a beautiful scene in front of the engineering building in UCD. I then work more to explore the data I have and go back to home and cook beautiful dishes!
